Joshua Hoskins is an American contemporary artist based in Berlin. His practice explores perception and the ways we construct meaning from the world around us. Working across diverse subject matter from figurative studies to architecture and abstract forms to aircraft, he investigates how the familiar can be reframed to challenge habitual ways of seeing. His work considers the relationship between what we observe and what we believe we see.
“My work explores the space between an object and the way we perceive it. For example, drawing on the visual language of the body, including erotic imagery, I reframe familiar forms to disrupt habitual ways of looking. The figure becomes not simply an object of desire, but a means of questioning how we construct meaning through perception.”
